This month officially marks the launch of Ten Fingers Records, our friend Ben Lee's very own record label. Lee first got the idea for the label after meeting Montreal's Pony Up! at one of his gigs in that great city. ìThe whole idea of the label came about basically because Pony Up! heckled me at my show in Montreal," said Lee. "They were being sassy and provocative all the way through the set, and when they strutted over to the merch booth after the show ñ I knew the truth. I said to them ëYouíre a band. And youíre awesome.í They simply nodded. And I then knew it was my destiny to help Pony Up! get their musical vision to the world. The rest is history. Well, not quite, cos it hasnít happened yetÖ but you know what I meanÖ.î Lee will take the first step toward achieving his destiny on August 24 with the release of a split Ben Lee/Pony Up! 7."
Ten Fingers was mostly just a pipe dream for Lee until one night in March when he sat down with Dim Mak label head (and fellow Tripwire user) Steve Aoki for a number of drinks. Having released music from The Kills, The Von Bondies, Pretty Girls Make Graves, and more, Aoki has made a name for himself around all the right circles and offered to help make Lee's dream a reality by suggesting Ten Fingers and Dim Mak create a partnership to release music. Several power lunches later, these two industry movers and shakers are now ready to unleash their enterprise upon the unsuspecting music world. The Ben Lee/Pony Up! 7" will feature Pony Up!'s tribute to kissing and telling, "Heard You Got Action," and Ben Lee's cover of Modest Mouse's "Float On."
Look for Pony Up!'s debut EP on October 12.
