The rumors were true: Viacomís second in charge, Mel Karmazin, has left his post as COO/President of the company. Karmazin will continue to consult for the company which oversees Paramount Pictures, MTV Networks, Showtime, Infinity Broadcasting, the Paramount theme parks, and Simon & Schuster, amongst many other holdings, and he is currently being replaced by Co-Presidents and Co-COOs Tom Freston and Les Moonves, Freston coming over from his CEO position at MTV and Moonves from his CEO spot at CBS. The two co-COOs are now inline to take over the Viacom empire in a few years when current leader Sumner Redstone steps down. Just last week, Howard Stern threatened to leave his job if Karmazin headed out, so now that may be the next shoe to drop. Stay tuned.
