Action Pact

Canadian rockers Sloan have been plying their trade for quite a while. From their excellent powerpoptastic1993 debut Smeared to their many Beatles-esque records (Twice Removed, One Chord To Another, Navy Blues), the Nova Scotians have always shown that their strength is in the melody. Luckily on Action Pact, which actually came out tin their homeland in 2003 but was just release in May in the States via Koch, they still have that knack for a tune, but have cranked the guitars back up a touch. The album opens with what may be the bandís best song ever, the immediately memorable ìGimme That,î and continues on through many songs that make you reach for the ìplay that againî button on the listening medium of choice. ìI Was Wrong,î Hollow Head,î ìLive On,î and ìReady For Youî all showcase the melodies and harmonies that have garnered Sloan their longtime fan base. Their harmonies are so sweet and the guitars chime so pleasantly that they even get away with this couplet from ìThe Rest Of My Life,î though: ìOne thing I know about the rest of my life, I know that Iíll be liviní it in Canada.î They may tell hosers to take off, but with songs like these, you let that slide.
