Metallica were preparing to bring the rock over the weekend at the Download Festival, the current incarnation of the Monsters Of Rock event, at Donington Park in England when drummer Lars Ulrich was stricken with an unknown malady. However, as they didnítí want to cancel their headline slot, they did the next best thing: went on 40 minutes late after speed courses in Metallica drumming for Slayerís Dave Lombardo and Joey Jordison of Slipknot. The celebrity stand-ins rocked a few tracks, including ìFor Whom The Bell Tolls,î ìCreeping Death,î ìBattery,î "Seek and Destroy,î and ìHorsemen.î Metallicaís drum tech took the sticks for the rest of the show. Ulrich is currently awaiting test results at a hospital in Germany to discover the root of his problem.
On the release front, the band will release Some Kind Of Monster, their eight-track EP already mentioned weeks back on The Tripwire, released in conjunction with their documentary of the same name. Elektra will drop the set on July 13, which will be comprised of six Parisian live tracks, as well as two versions of the title track, an offering off their last studio album, 2003ís St. Anger.
