Heís been buzzing and building up a fan base through a just-completed US mini-tour and his debut record, 1 is finally on the shelves. îHeî is the one-man army known to his mother as Ciaran McFeely, and known to the rest of us as Simple Kid. The ëKid, who started off in Irish guitar act The Young Offenders, has been wowing music fans in the UK for over a year now with his eclectic mix of strums, beats and vocal wizardry and now, thanks to our friends at Vector, itís North Americaís turn for fun. Creating a true sonic mÈlange, Simple Kid combines so many different sounds, vibes and influences, itís almost mind-boggling. On ìStaring At The Sunî a intro not dissimilar to Aerosmith/Run DMCís ìWalk This Wayî turns into a left field pop number which sounds like a less-esoteric Badly Drawn Boy or Super Furry Animals song. ìAverage Man,î on the other hand, gives you a little bit of insight of McFeelyís idea of a normal male, while aspects of Beck and Ben Kweller can be heard on much of 1. Itís time for asbestos gloves, I think, because the Simple Kid is gonna be HOT.
