Soulmates Never Die DVD

Placebo may not have reached the heights of fame here in the US, but this Brit-based trio sure makes the kids happy in Europe. Whether in the UK, where they sell mad records, or in France, where their new live DVD, Soulmates Never Die was filmed, the kids go crazy for Placebo. No further proof is needed than on Soulmates. The venue in Paris is packed full of 16,000 screaming fiends, Frank Black & The Catholics are main support, and the trio of Brian Molko, Stefan Olsdal and Steve Hewitt are on fine form. If youíre at all familiar with Placebo's catalog, watching the DVD just reminds you of how many catchy tunes they have. Whether itís recent album Sleeping With Ghosts material like "Special Needs," "Plasticine," "This Picture," and "English Summer Rain" or past hits like "Taste In Men," "Special K," "Slave To The Wage," "Every You Every Me," or "Pure Morning," Molko and gang have a way with angular guitar lines and androgynous vocals and lyrics. Molko even further endears himself with the Parisians by speaking French at every opportunity. At the end, Frank Black even joins the band onstage for a rendition of Pixies' "Where Is My Mind" (which Black had mentioned in a radio interview made him far more money than when his band recorded it), wrapping up this glorious concert in a smile-shaped bow. As far as live DVDs go, this one's near the top of the pile. Discover the joy.
