In A Safe Place

I must admit that I have a special place in my heart for The Album Leaf. The act centered around ex-Tristeza man Jimmy LaValle played to rave reviews inside an art gallery at last year's Iceland Airwaves festival in Reykjavik and I was made an instant fan. And, after hearing In A Safe Place, I'm sure I will be joined by many others, as well as the hordes who witnessed their live excellence during their support slot on the last Sigur Ros American tour. Elements of Kid A-era Radiohead, Postal Service, the aforementioned Sigur Ros, and even the keyboard tones of Keane can be heard in Album Leafís mainly-instrumental compositions. Making mood music that isn't boring or merely background sounds, Album Leaf make cool kid cocktail party music. Invite your friends over, chef up some zany concoctions and enjoy the swirling atmospherics of "Thule," "Twentytwofourteen," "The Outer Banks," or any of the mesmerizing tracks on In A Safe Place and prepare to be lost inside your own head. That might not make for the best conversation, but at least you'll be happy.
