The Streets, Franz Ferdinand Heavy Favorites For Mercury Prize

It's that time of year again - Mercury Prize Shortlist time! The award, that celebrates the best UK albums of the year, is voted for by a panel of industry experts, journalists and artists and based on a list of albums nominated by labels. The 12 albums that make up this year's Shortlist were selected from 180 albums put forward. There are two heavy favorites this year - The Streets and Franz Ferdinand. According to Billboard, bookmakers William Hill have given both of those releases three-to-one odds to bring home the prize. They'll be up against Amy Winehouse's Frank, Kish Kash by Basement Jaxx, Belle & Sebastian's Dear Catastrophe Waitress, Thank You by Jamella, Joss Stone's The Soul Sessions, Hopes And Fears by Keane, Robert Wyatt's Cuckooland, Final Straw by Snow Patrol, Ty's Upwards and Who Killed...The Zutons by The Zutons. The winner will be announced on September 7 at a gala that will be broadcast on a variety of BBC TV stations as well as BBC Radio.
