Duke University To Issue iPods To Class Of 2008

In what looks to be the first situation of its type, Duke University will be issuing iPods to its incoming freshman class this year. The students will receive a 20GB iPod from the school, which is using this one year as a test to see if the famed music player can also be used as a learning tool. Each student’s iPod will be loaded with school info, like the academic calendar, campus tour schedule, data about freshman orientation, the Duke University fight song. On top of that, the school has set up a special website, designed to look like Apple’s iTunes page, where students will be able to obtain files uploaded by their instructors including lectures, audio books, and language lessons. The possibilities are endless with a tool like this and it will be very interesting to see how this trial year pans out.
