Jack Black, Serj Tankian (System Of A Down), Robert Smith, and Josh Homme are just a few of the artists selected to be listmakers for the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize. Honoring the year's "most creative and adventurous albums", this year's Shortlist will be presented by XM Satellite Radio and MTV2. In mid-September, the "Shortlist" of ten finalists will be announced, of which one will be selected as the winner. That winner will be announced at multi-artist concert in Los Angeles in November and will receive a check for $5000. More importantly however, they will get bragging rights as the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize winner. Past winners include Damien Rice, N.E.R.D. and Sigur Ros.
The full list of the 2004 listmakers includes artists Norah Jones, Chris Carraba (Dashboard Confessional), The Dixie Chicks, John Mayer, ?uestlove, Will-I-Am (Black Eyed Peas), Perry Farrell, 3D (Massive Attack), film director Jim Jarmusch, KCRW's Nic Harcourt, and journalists Neil Strauss, Josh Tyrangiel, Toure, Thor Christensen, Margeaux Watson and Tom Moon. These listmakers will each select five albums for the "Long List," which will be announced in late August.
