All Mapped Out

It’s August of 2004. The Departure formed in January of 2004. That’s seven months. During that period they recorded some demos, were the subject of a bidding frenzy, signed to Parlophone records, finished this EP (mixed by UK heavyweight Alan Moulder), and supported The Killers on a UK tour. Not a bad 58.3% of a year. Hailing from Northampton, the quintet share a love of U2, Depeche Mode, and The Smiths, letting those influences seep into their debut single, “All Mapped Out”. Those may be the influences, but these upstarts share more with spiritual brethren Echo & The Bunnymen, The Chameleons, Joy Division, and Interpol. Call it post punk, call it art rock, call it what you will. The bottom line is there is no denying the talent of The Departure, nor is there anyway to escape being dragged in by “All Mapped Out”, hook, line, and sinker. Good luck trying.
