New Mike Watt Album Comes Sooner Than You Think

Mike Watt’s third solo album, The Secondman’s Middle Stand, hits stores August 24 through Columbia/Red Ink. Former bassist of the legendary Minutemen, an early '80s post-punk band, Watt put aside his weird and experimental side projects for this new album. Although considered one of the godfathers of indie rock, Watt hasn’t had much commercial success, but he is still regarded as an inspiration by bands like Sonic Youth. The new album consists of a collection of songs written about his battle with a near-fatal illness. For all those fans who can’t wait a month for the new album, iTunes will have it available for download on Tuesday. If listening to the album early still isn’t enough, fear not, Watt is hitting a city near you on the El Mar Cura Todo Tour beginning September 17 in San Francisco.
