On October 5, rock veterans R.E.M. will release their thirteenth album. Dubbed Around The Sun, the new album will be preceded by the single “Leaving New York” towards the end of September. Though the first single is a love song, frontman Michael Stipe told Rolling Stone that other songs on Around The Sun will tackle some heavier issues and have some politically-charged elements. As reported yesterday, R.E.M. will take part in the Vote For Change Tour where they’ll pair up with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Bright Eyes and John Fogerty, beginning October 1 in Philadelphia. Presented by MoveOn PAC, the tour will be hitting battleground states across the country leading up to the presidential election.
