Second Sudan Benefit Album Details

With the situation in Sudan now officially being labeled Genocide, it's amazing how congruous today's artists have reacted to these most serious charges, rising together to lend their support. To benefit the war-town African country, a second benefit album in as many weeks , Genocide in Sudan, out on Waxploitation Records, is set for a late November release. This record follows on the heels of Oxfam's Songs for Sudan downlaod-only album available on, as reported here last week.

Genocide in Sudan has previously unreleased or rare tracks from Tom Morello's Nightwatchman project, the Pretenders, Angelique Kidjo, Thievery Corporation, Mark Farina, Rise Against, DJ Spooky with Lee "Scratch" Perry, Yoko Ono, Toots and the Maytals with Bunny Wailer, Kinky, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra and a Danger Mouse/Murs collaboration. Tortoise, System Of A Down, Bad Religion, Jurassic 5, Gorillaz, Jill Scott and the X-ecutioners have donated previously released tracks.

"We're trying to address two things with this CD," says Waxploitation CEO/album producer Jeff Antebi on "The first is to get the United Nations to declare the ongoing atrocities a genocide, so that real action can take effect to stop what is obviously an 'ethnic cleansing' taking place, in violation of the 1948 Geneva Convention. The second is to raise money for the dire relief situation affecting over 1 million innocent civilians who might die from starvation and disease if aid does not reach them right now."

Step one is complete, Colin Powell and the UN have declared the rape, pillaging and slaughter of blacks in western Sudan by the Islamist Khartoum regime and its Arab militia allies genocide. It is now time to start step two!

In their attempt to rasie money for relief, all proceeds from the album will be donated to the United Nations Refuge Agency and UNICEF.
