Yahoo! Shells Out Some Serious Cash For Musicmatch

Omnipresent Internet presence Yahoo! has agreed to purchase music software provider and digital music service Musicmatch for the hearty sum of $160 million in cold hard cash. For those who are unfamiliar, Musicmatch is a privately-owned company that offers a jukebox software program which allows users to import, download and manage songs. It also incorporates an online radio network and digital music store. According to the Associated Press, the purchase of Musicmatch will increase Yahoo!'s online listeners by about 12.9 million, bringing them to a grand total of 23 million listeners. Those figures were based on Nielsen/Netratings survey done last month. The deal is expected to close before the end of the year as long as regulators approve, after which time the private owners of Musicmatch will fill an empty indoor pool with bundles of cash and spend their days swimming naked in it like Scrooge McDuck.
