What happens when you try to record a follow up to a hugely successful album? As Chris Martin is finding out, you lose your hair. The pressure to match the quality of Coldplay’s A Rush Of Blood To The Head seems to be a bit too much for Martin’s hairline to handle. In an interview with NME, Martin said, “We’re under an immense amount of intense pressure in the studio… We’re working all the time because it’s so important. We can’t fuck it up.” About his hair loss, he commented, “We’re one receded inch away (from finishing). When my hair’s gone back another inch, I know we’ll have finished our album." Hopefully Gweneth Paltrow digs the Mr. Clean look.
In other Coldplay news, Martin made an appearance at last week’s Make Trade Fair show in London. Martin has been an outspoken supporter of the organization, and has inspired other musicians including Michael Stipe to join the cause. That evening Martin joined REM on stage to sing “Man On The Moon” during their headlining set. During the show Stipe told the crowd, “I was introduced to the idea of fair trade because I'm a massive Coldplay fan, so I'd like to thank Chris Martin."
As Coldplay is nearing completion of the recording portion of their upcoming third album, we wish the band, and Chris Martin's hair, the best of luck.
