Our favorite Uncle Fester look-alike is close to unleashing his debut solo record. Billy Corgan, former leader of the Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan, is in the final stages of finishing up his currently untitled album. According to Corgan’s blog on his official site, he is down to mixing the tracks, and is looking for a release early next year. The bald one is co-producing the record with Nitzer Ebb’s Ben Harris. Corgan said, “We are now in the mixing stage for the next three weeks. As of right now we are set to release in the spring. I am very excited about the album as I feel I have created something relatively fresh and vibrant and exciting to my ears. I know that I like it, and that makes me smile.”
You’d think that an upcoming solo record and a book of poetry would be enough to keep Corgan busy. Nope. He is currently writing his first novel, and has already recorded a ninety-minute set to be released on DVD. Tracks on the DVD, which we would assume will also appear on his album, include “The World’s Fair,” “Black Sox,” “Bobby Franks,” “Bad Driver,” and “For Your Love.” 2005 is shaping up to be the year of Billy-mania. Perhaps “I Look Like Mr. Clean” may appear as a b-side. We can only hope.
