Ministry fans rejoice! Everyone's favorite industrial pioneers loaded store shelves this week with a slew of reissued classics and rarities to devour. Nearly 25 years after their dark conception, Rykodisc has released a suite of five CDs that honor the works of Ministry and their front-man, Al Jourgensen. Beginning with an overview of their first recordings, Ministry: Early Trax features 12" singles, including a remix twist on the commercial breakthrough, Every Day is Halloween.
Jourgensen moonlights with Trent Reznor, electronica innovators Cabaret Voltaire and Fugazi's Ian MacKaye on Ministry: Sidetrax. This disc contains his collaborative ventures under the names 1000 Homo DJs, Acid Horse and Pailhead, respectively.
Loyalists to Ministry off-shoot Revolting Cocks have reason to celebrate as well. Included in the wave of Rykodisc rehash is a re-release of their first effort, Big Sexy Land. An extended two-disc upgrade to You Goddamned Son Of A Bitch -- Live At The Metro Chicago features their take on Public Image's P.I.L. and adds bonus tracks recorded live in Glasgow, Scotland. And RevCo strap on their bandanas and leotards for a filthy rendition of the 80's aerobisize hit Let's Get Physical on an extended release of their 1990 Wax Trax! album Beers, Steers & Queers that includes four additional tracks.
The Jourgensen series comes on the heals of Ministry's latest offering, the Dubbya-hate fueled Houses of the Molé, released in June on Sanctuary Records. The gang will continue to rampage across American stages, joining fellow industrial rock brethren My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult on this fall's Evil Doer Tour through December.
