I guess people are really feeling Robert English's John Peel tribute on WKQX. We now see Snow Patrol are giving away a free download of the Undertone's cover "Teenage Kicks" in memory of the legendary Radio 1 DJ. The band have made their cover of Peel’s favorite track available on their website. Click on the "UK/Eire site" to find the track. The acoustic song was recorded at last year’s SXSW festival. In a message on the band’s official website, snowpatrol.net, they speak of their sadness at the DJ’s death last week.
"Unfortunately we never had the honor of a Peel session or meeting him. We greatly admired him, his maverick radio shows, and in our dreams always though he would do the voice over for the Reindeer Section rock family tree. He was responsible for saving Radio 1 from chart hell, he will be sorely missed. This track is free to download and is given as a gift from us in memory of John."
Tipped to be the Christmas #1 in the UK, the Undertones have recently put the rumors to rest and said that the single will NOT be re-released. The band’s manager Andy Ferguson has said that despite the media speculation, it will not be re-released as a single reports NME. "It would be totally inappropriate to release 'Teenage Kicks' as a single and is not something the band would even consider," he said.
