Band Aid 20 Single Gets The Ix-nay In The US

In the grand tradition of the record industry looking out for the consumer, the new version of Band Aid's charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas" is not going to be released in the US. The song, which is expected to top the UK charts this weekend, will be sold in many countries around the world but not the US where only the import CD and official website download will be available. The original 1984 version of the song was released in the US and reached number 13 in the singles chart. Universal are the Scrooge McDucks responsible for the global distribution of the single, which will be available across Europe, Asia, South America and Canada. With proceeds from the sales going towards relief for the Darfur region of Sudan and to combat HIV and Aids across Africa, it's obvious why the record is not released here. They can't delete the single and sell the full at $18.99.
