Band Aid 20 single "Do They Know It’s Christmas" has hit the UK charts at Number 1, outselling all of the top 40 singles combined. The track was released on CD single though Mercury Records in the UK on Monday, November 29 and, not surprisingly, went straight to Number 1, where it stayed for a second week (December 5) and it looks set to remain there until Christmas, reports XFM. The track has sold over 300,000 copies already, well on it's way to breaking the 1,000,000 mark, making it the fastest selling UK single since Elton John’s re-release of "Candle In The Wind" back in 1997. HMV’s Gennaro Castaldo explained, “It sold more than 15 times the number two track, Ice Cube's "You Can Do It". But keeping all things relative, the original version of the single which was released in 1984 sold 750,000 copies in its first week and went on to sell just over 3.5million. Why this was not released here still boggles the mind
That being said, the single can be acquired in the US if purchased from the official website and proceeds go to a worthy cause. There is also a clip available on the site so check it.
