Pretty In Pixels EP

Brooklyn-by-way-of-DC quintet The Fatáles recorded the Pretty In Pixels EP in August of last year at Brooklyn's Headgear production and recording studio with the help of producer Dan Long (Say Hi To Your Mom). In true DIY fashion, the band did everything themselves for the release the EP, but what was likely intended to be more of a sales tool to help the band pick up a record deal, turned out to be much more. The seven-song Pretty In Pixels EP is a spacey rock & roll record that can easily stand up to releases from the band's fellow NYC indie rock contemporaries. Incorporating Radiohead-esque guitar, electronic elements, strings, piano and various layers of sampling, The Fatáles create a rich sonic springboard for frontman Wayne Switzer's guttural, masculine, sometimes out of control vocals. They work the electronics into the mix extremely effectively, using them to segue between tracks and create an overall natural and flowing vibe to the record. Candidates for an eventual single at specialty, should someone choose to pick these guys up (which they should), include the blip-filled EP opener "The Cosmonaut", the driving, brooding and dark "Ministry Of Defense" and my personal favorite, "This Is A Trap". I find it surprising that no one has snatched these guys up yet. They're ripe for the picking!
