New Host Named For 33rd Annual Rockin' New Years Eve

Who would have thought the day would come when we wouldn’t see Dick Clark ring in the New Year? There have been rumors that Clark may have not been able to do it, but it became fact today in a statement issued by his publicist. Last week Clark suffered a stroke and has been in a Los Angeles hospital since.

According to the Washington Post this will be the first time in 33 years Clark will not host the annual “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” orgy of retro-ness. This year Regis Philbin is planning on taking the reigns.

Clark commented saying, “It’ll feel strange watching it on TV but my doctors felt it was too soon…I am sure that Regis will do a great job and I’m thankful that he was able to step in on such short notice.”

So why Regis? Speculations were that Jimmy Kimmel would lead us into the new year, but Clark’s show averages about 20 million viewers, while Kimmel snags only about 1.7 million. Regis has been known to capture 20 million when he hosted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

Enough about the hosts… here is what you were waiting for, the lineup. Looks like this year you will see treats from Ashlee Simpson, Billy Idol, Los Lonely Boys, Big & Rich, Earth Wind & Fire, Simple Plan, and everyone’s favorite, Kenny G. Mmmm…sounds like a party!
