Substitution Mass Confusion, a tribute to new wave icons The Cars, is set to land on January 4 via Not Lame Recordings. It features an all-star cast including Jason Falkner, the Posies’ Jon Auer, Bleu, Butch Walker, Damone, and a host of more. A portion of the compilation’s proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society in memory of Benjamin Orr, the Cars’ bassist that passed in 2000 from cancer.
Billboard reports that photographer and fan Peter Kuehl organized the CD, inspired by Orr's passing. "The first thing I thought was that someone should get a tribute together," he explains. "And I thought that it should be for charity. After three years, none had been produced, so I decided to do it myself." If you are near Boston, a release show featuring a number of the bands on the disc is planned for February 10 at TT the Bear’s.
