Super Furry Animals Release Greatest Hits

It’s a new year and time for resolutions. While some people vow to quit smoking or go to the gym, Welsh pop group Super Furry Animals promise to have three album projects in the works during 2005. The band is currently working on their seventh full-legnth and front man Gruff Rhys’ first solo project is due in March via Rough Trade. If that wasn’t enough, XL/Beggars Group is releasing a compilation of the bands finest work.

Hitting stores on January 25, titled Songbook: The Singles Volume One, will cover a broad range of Super Furry classics. Billboard claims that everything from “Blerwytirhwg” from the group's improbably titled 1995 debut EP Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyndrobwllantysilio-gogogochynygofod
(In Space)
to "Slow Life" and "Golden Retriever" from SFA's 2003 album Phantom Power will be showcased. Other choice selections among the album's 21 tracks include "Northern Lites," "Something for the Weekend," "Hermann Loves Pauline," "Play It Cool," "If You Don't Want Me to Destroy You" and "The International Language of Screaming."

Yes Timmy, there will be some pretty swank packaging as well. The set will also host a Songbook DVD that features all of the videos and a documentary with the band on tour in the US. If anyone out there who is reading this is still looking for that perfect birthday present for me, here is a great idea!
