Another confirmed benefit concert has been announced, this time with a Texas-sized lineup. The Tsunami Relief Austin to South Asia is happening this coming Sunday, January 9, at the Austin Music Hall. Willie Nelson is officially listed as the headlining act, with many other Texas bands also on the bill.
Musician Michael Hall was given the task of putting together a lineup, and told the Austin-American Statesman: “I started at the top and when Willie said, 'Count me in,' I knew we were off and running." He continued: “This came together unbelievably quick. The scope of the tragedy has really affected everyone I've talked to. People really want to pitch in."
Other confirmed bands include Patty Griffin, Spoon, Alejandro Escovedo, Bruce Robison, and Kelly Willis. Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit several different organizations, including the American Red Cross, UNICEF, and Doctors Without Borders. For those of you in the Austin area, tickets are $25 and are available through Star Tickets. If the show doesn’t sell out in advance, tickets will be available at the door.
