As reported last week in the Tripwire, a massive Live-Aid type concert is being planned in Cardiff at the Millennium Stadium on January 22. The first round of participating bands for Tsunami Relief Cardiff have been announced, which includes Eric Clapton, Feeder, Manic Street Preachers, Snow Patrol, Badly Drawn Boy, and Embrace. The organizers of the event are hoping to raise £1 million for victims of the Asian tsunami disaster.
Tickets went on sale over the weekend, with over 45,000 already sold. In fact, 20,000 were sold within the first hour of going on sale. About the event, stadium manager Paul Sergeant told the BBC: "We had a fantastic response over the weekend, with the ticket sales reaching 45,000 by tea time on Sunday - it's an incredible achievement. We are over the moon, we have a good line-up, but this shows that people want to come together to pay their respects and mark the tsunami disaster."
Now that the UK has their massive benefit concert underway, it is time for the US to get with the program. There are plenty of smaller benefit concerts planned around the country, but where is the big one? Hello New York!?! Hello Los Angeles!?! Wake up from your slumber and get to work!
