Illegal Tender EP

Brian Karscig, Jason Hill and Mark Maigaard of San Diego pop outfit Convoy formed Louis XIV in 2003, releasing a self-titled album about a self-obsessed kid who is under the impression that he is actually Louis XIV. Since, the band has become the toast of the town in the UK, getting airplay on Radio 1 and appearing on various UK TV programs. When hometown radio station 91X got a hold of a rough mix of “Finding Out True Love Is Blind”, the band’s popularity took off and they decided to release a pair of EPs – the Blue and Pink EPs. Released this week (Jan 25), the Illegal Tender EP is a sampling of what to expect from the band’s sophomore album, which is slated for release this spring. The band's bluesy, '60s lo-fi rock sound and cock-sure swagger make it clear why Louis XIV has become the next "it" band for the music-loving, hipster community. Sexually suggestive lyrics coupled with the raw, gritty and growling Keith Richards meets George Harrison meets Jack White guitar licks will turn you on like a raunchy, early '70s porn vid and have you begging for more. “Finding Out True Love Is Blind”, the band's first single, is already in rotation at some of the country’s powerhouse alternative stations and Louis XIV is fast becoming a household name.
