All Rise

Sometimes I think about music trends and I laugh. One band makes it big and that leads other bands to follow suit and do the same thing. It is nice to know that there are still some artists out there that are truly original and do not fit this normal throw away mold. One of these artists is newcomer Inara George. Her debut album, All Rise, was produced by Michael Andrews (notable for his work with Donnie Darko) and also features Greg Kurstin (Beck) and backing vocals by Jackson Browne on one of the tracks. Born the daughter of Lowell George (of Little Feat fame), Inara manages to hold her own and captivate the listener with songs like "Mistress" and "Genius". With all of these special aspects it would be easy to think that Inara George would be overshadowed. That is not so with All Rise. Inara possesses the quality that so many artists have seemed to forget. A timeless voice matched with quality instrumentation that results in pop perfection. What is amazing is that her songs seem to really reflect her as a person. A little shy, and they create the perfect soundtrack to a warm, sunny, lazy afternoon. Her vocals are hard to pinpoint, one part Emiliana Torrini, one part Cocteau Twins, mixed in with a touch of humility. All in all you can't go wrong with this little gem on Everloving Records. I foresee great things in Inara's future and this album is just the beginning.
