The Office Coming To America In March

For all the TV shows that started in the UK and then brought over here, with so much promise, not too many have taken off. Aside from Survivor and other reality shows like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Changing Rooms, the dry UK comedies have never taken off here. We love our Benny Hill, though, and All In The Family was based on a UK show back in the day. Remember Absolutely Fabulous or Coupling? Both huge hits across the pond but failures here. Now we have the award-winning BBCAmerica smash The Office coming to NBC on March 24. A mockumentary on mundane office life, how long before The Office sees Joey as a guest star? You can check some scenes of the new show on NBC's website here. Ricky Gervais as David Brent was pure genius. For those not familiar with the original, go out and get the Complete Seasons 1+2 plus the Christmas Special on DVD. Hours of enjoyment. With the NBC version, Steve Carell has assumed the role of Brent. Although he nailed the role of Brick Tamland in Anchorman and was awesome on The Daily Show, can he rise to the challenge? Will Hollywood destroy and test market another show to death? Here's hoping they stick to the original as best they can and avoid jumping the shark too soon.
