Live - Bloc Party At "Legendary Motherfucker"

After a week of so-so shows standing in the back thinking, this is alright but I’d rather be at home listening to the new Shout Out Louds album, there finally came a show to revive my dedication to the spirit of live indie rock. Bloc Party's show Sunday night at the, as Bloc Party themselves put it, "legendary Motherfucker", did just that. While blowing through the high points of both their new full-length, Silent Alarm and the already released, self-titled EP, Bloc Party sure got the kids to dance up something fierce. Their stage presence quickly revealed that they were just as happy to be up there rockin as we were to be down there being rocked. With each new song the crowd became more and more rowdy as confirmation that this was going to be an amazing show set in.

Motherfucker and Bloc Party were a perfect marriage. Honestly, why don’t transvestites introduce indie pop bands more often? The hour of free redbull/vodkas as well as the utterly danceable space of the Roxy made for a perfect night. You’d be hard pressed to find a sour face or a hip not shakin’ as Bloc Party belted out, “cause you know I’m on fire!/I’m on fire!” during "Banquet". They capped off the set with "Little Thoughts", which only caused the crowd to erupt into a further frenzy. To the crowd’s excitement, the band returned for an encore and topped off the evening with an uncharacteristically jammy song like our own personal Bloc Party lullaby, weening us off of the speed kick joy ride that was their set. Be ready to check them out at the Bowery in April and on the rest of their full tour, sans transvestite.
