In The Clear

Remember Ivy? Yeah, the same Ivy that was around back in the '90s and toured with indie favorites Saint Etienne and Madder Rose. The group that has survived being on a major label, being dropped from it, and many other highs and lows only to release music that they stand behind and love. The band that kind of came along by chance with future members replying to a newspaper ad and forming something that would one day be a staple in all of our music libraries. Although time definitely has passed since we have heard from them, their music still is just as beautiful as it once was. The new album starts off with "Nothing But The Sky", a dreamy and sophisticated song that has swirling melodies mixed in with singer Dominique Durand's distinct voice. If more of a single is what you are looking for then try the up-tempo song titled "Keep Moving". It is hard for your head not to bob along with the beat. The same goes for track five, "Tess Don't Tell" and "Corners of Your Mind". The thing that really makes this album stand out is how the lyrical content really shows a strong sense of maturity and a confidence that so many bands dream of having. About the only thing that I wish was different on this album is the time. It clocks in at a short 45 minutes, and ends a little too soon for my tastes, mainly because I love Ivy.
