It was just the other day when the name Edwyn Collins happened to come up in conversation. I was speaking with somebody about the new Little Barrie EP, which Collins co-produced with the band. Sadly, XFM is reporting that the former Orange Juice singer is fighting for his life after suffering a suspected second brain hemorrhage. In a message from his management, they said: “Edwyn Collins suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on Sunday night and has been in hospital since, where doctors are trying to stabilize his condition."
Collins was admitted to the hospital on February 20th for what was believed to be a severe case of food poisoning. His wife, Grace Maxwell, has confirmed that the musician has had an emergency operation, and has “come through it as well as can be hoped for and is continuing to fight."
After his time in Orange Juice, Collins launched a solo career and scored a hit with his single “A Girl Like You”. Lately he has appeared on the other side of the mixing board, producing artists such as Sons And Daughters and Little Barrie. We wish Edwyn Collins and his family the best. Get well soon Edwyn.
