March 25, 2005

We haven't gotten a chance to see Tego rip the mic since 2004, when he first went toe to toe with Beenie Man at our party in BK and then later rocked the Megaton show at Madison Square Garden. There was lots of debate after Megaton around who was actually responsible for tearing the roof off the motherfucker - Tego, Don Omar or Yankee. Regardless, Tego's live show is really really real - the boy's been doin' it since way before he dropped a verse on a Fitty remix or when Hot started playing "Oye Mi Canto" - the original, superior "cream cheese and bagel on it" version.

Next Thursday (March 31st), Tego's back in NYC, performing at Spirit for LIFEbeat's "Hearts & Voices" Reggaeton Explosion. We weren't there, but last year's "Hearts & Voices" with Kanye, State Prop and 8Ball & MJG was apparently rockin', and this year they've flipped it and are looking to Tego and the success of reggaeton to help raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. El Abayarde's back in NYC and we're so there.
