In very sad news, Crowded House drummer Paul Hester was found dead on Saturday of an apparent suicide. According to CNN, Hester left his home on Friday evening to take his two dogs for a walk and never returned. His body was found Saturday afternoon in a park near his home in Melbourne. Medics arrived on the scene and attempted to resuscitate him but it was too late. Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokeswoman Liraje Memishi said that Hester had “attempted suicide”and suffered strangulation. Although no specifics have been released on the exact location of where his body was discovered, although some reports have claimed he was found hanging from a tree.
Hester was the drummer for Crowded House, one of Australia’s most successful bands of the late ‘80s. Longtime friend Peter Green commented on The Daily Telegraph: “Paul never said anything about that and I never, ever, heard he was suffering from any illness. Then, after today, I wonder if anybody really knew anything.”
Paul Hester was 46 and is survived by his girlfriend Mardi Sommerfield and their two daughters.
