Once We Were Diamonds EP

I first became acquainted with Diamond Nights towards the beginning of 2005 when one of my co-workers was raving annoyingly about the band. (Yes Matt, I am talking about you.) Not knowing anything about them I did a little legwork and found out that the lads from New York were having a record put out this year from indie-tastic Kemado Records. I was sent a few tracks and liked what I heard but still wasn't convinced. I needed to see them live. I found out that they were planning on having a residency at the Delancey Bar for a whole month. Long story short, I went to the last night of their residency and immediately saw that these guys were something special. Their music is pretty straightforward rock, but they have an edge that makes not only the rock fans dance, but the super trendy hipsters throw their arms up in the air as well. On their new EP, which comes out next week, the boys have some pretty tasty treats... especially track three, "The Girls Attractive". Blending a mixture of dance / almost disco-funk drums, cracked out synths and deep, breathy vocals, this song is sure to become the next rock anthem for all you post-'80s-tired-of-neo-wave-rocker types. On the other spectrum, "Saturday Fantastic" shows a different side of Diamond Nights. Was I just transported to 1977 and dropped off at a big arena rock show of the era? So the question remains. Would I recommend this CD to someone? Yes, I believe I would. One thing is for certain - Diamond Nights are the real deal. So if you are looking for a great introduction to something that sounds different than most of the other stuff out there take note. Mr. DuFour you were correct. I hate it when I am wrong.
