The Cure Faces Lineup Changes

In typical Cure style, the lineup has changed once again. Somehow, the band has stayed intact with the same members for a decade, so the group was overdue for a little internal drama. This time around, it is guitarist Perry Bamonte and keyboardist Roger O’Donnell who have jumped ship, leaving behind frontman Robert Smith, bassist Simon Gallup and drummer Jason Cooper.

This news was floating around the internet rumor mills last week, but has been made official through a posting on the band’s website. The statement reads: “Perry Bamonte and Roger O'Donnell are no longer in the band. The forthcoming summer shows will be performed by Robert Smith, Simon Gallup and Jason Cooper... And others???”

The question is, why did they leave the band? O’Donnell posted a statement on his own personal website, saying: “What is done is done however it happened. I was in a group and now I'm not ... Thanks to everyone who has emailed me, I will reply to you all and I wish The Cure all the success they deserve.”

The Cure only has a couple of months to nail down a new lineup, as their next gig is listed as at the Benicassim Festival in Spain on August 5. My vote is to bring back guitarist Porl Thompson, who left the band back in 1993. He ruled.
