FADER Interns And The Trapper Of The Year

June 14, 2005

Last night we took our FADER interns to a party to listen to Young Jeezy's Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101.

The event was specifically to promote Jeezy to DJs, and somehow involved complete and utter guestlist mayhem at the door - a sea of pushing and tiptoe-tipping made all the more surreal by the street team sensory overload that stretched across two entire New York City blocks. TRUCKS MADE ENTIRELY OF TVs! BACKPACK-MOUNTED BILLBOARDS!

Eventually, everyone made it in (even Pee Wee Kirkland - how you gonna make Pee Wee wait outside?), and today, we asked our interns for a recap. Their words are in italics, our Q's in bold...

So tell everyone about last night.

Yeah, well we hit the Jeezy party...

AND THEN WHAT?

They had it set up so that there were, like, three chambers you had to advance through in order to finally achieve the experience of listening to the album. First chamber: outside gate. Second chamber: garden. Third chamber: residential lobby to the building.

AND THEN WHAT?

We took an elevator to an apartment/office space (where the street DVD crews were out in full force) and it was even hotter than it was outside. Finally we climbed an unlit stairwell to reach the roof.

AND THEN WHAT?

The Jeezy snowman was everywhere - shiny blue and black snowman t-shirts were on damn near everyone in attendance. Juelz Santana was also in the house, along with this serious-looking Asian dude rocking a Steven Segal ponytail, DJ Green Lantern, Lord Sear, Gabe from Def Jam (who saved the interns' lives during the outside crush), Timbaland's DJ (who'd made an appearance earlier in the day at The FADER office), DJ Will (who was spinning on the roof), and...well, did I mention the snowman?

AND THEN WHAT?

After we left, the Def Jam TV mobile kept playing a weirdly hypnotic Jeezy/Bun B video loop on mute over and over and over again on all four sides of the trucks. The Bad Boy street team kept it good and analog with the Boyz In The Hood backpacks, but it just wasn't the same.
