Detroit has been busy getting all prolific-like the past couple of years, and we're not just talking about J&M.

Native D-Towners the Volebeats are getting set to release Like Her on Turquoise Mountain Records. The band's first LP of new material since 2000, Like Her is eleven tracks of spot-on acoustic/rock/folk songwriting with six-string strumming and harmonies so tight that it calls to mind a hypothetical, never-heard collaboration between the La's and Brian Wilson - with an alt-country cigarette hanging out of its mouth. In other words, it sounds gooooood.

To up the hometown connection, the whole thing was recorded at Ghetto Recorders, the all-analog Detroit studio that's hosted sessions by the Stripes themselves, as well as fellow Motor City-ers the Von Bondies (though, we imagine, not at the same time), and Electric Six.

Download tracks now on iTunes, or cop at a store near you on July 12th.
