From October 19-23, bands from all around the world will descend upon Reykjavik, Iceland, for the Iceland Airwaves Festival. Like a colder version of SXSW, the Iceland Airwaves Festival brings both emerging and established talent together for a series of showcases at various venues around the city. With past performers that include Suede, The Flaming Lips, The Hives, Sparta, Thievery Corporation and Icelandic bands like Sigur Ros, Gus Gus, Leaves and more, this year's line-up has a lot to live up to. Thankfully, even though the festival is still months away, the line-up is starting to shape up nicely. Libertines' Pete Doherty's new outfit Babyshambles have signed on, as have UK rock act The Zutons, Swedish garage/soul/punk band (International) Noise Conspiracy and Chicago-based, bro/sis indie rockers the Fiery Furnaces. They will join a host of local Icelandic bands like Bang Gang, Gus Gus, Jaguar, Leaves, Sign and tons more.
