Do You Want To

They’re baaaack! One of the greatest success stories of 2004 - sales, radio, and otherwise - Franz Ferdinand have decided against resting on their laurels and instead went back in the studio, recorded the “difficult” sophomore album, and have it ready for their fans to eat up. And if “Do You Want To” is the litmus test of quality for that album, You Could Have It So Much Better…With Franz Ferdinand, it could hardly be classified as difficult. In fact, the ‘80s-inflected angular dancepunk revolution championed by the Scots is still in full force and the ball isn’t going to stop rolling anytime soon with “Do You Want To” in the mix. In all actuality, ass-shaking will be at a premium. Alex Kapranos and his gang of skinny-tied rock bandits haven’t lost the ability to write a catchy pop tune in the set of months since the release of their self-titled debut. “Do You Want To” encapsulates the best moments of that debut, while even perhaps upping the reading on the funk-o-meter. This song is already becoming omnipresent at alternative radio, and with good reason. “Lucky, lucky, you’re so lucky.” Yes, Alex, we are. As long as you keep writing songs like this, four leaf clovers abound.
