Live - Pussy Time: Nashville Pussy Gets Some At CBGB

I went to this show for 3 reasons (in no particular order):
1. CBGB could unfortunately be extinct any day now
2. This is one of the greatest live rock bands ever
3. There is a new bass player who needed to prove herself to me that she is worthy enough to be in this band (years ago I went to see the Raveonettes and stood right in front of Sharin Foo for a similar occasion – she didn’t even break a sweat – I never saw the band again.)

When the band came on at 12:10 am I was in front stage right. Karen Cuda, new bassist, mounted the famous CBGB stage right in front of me in a beautifully custom made cut AC/DC “back in black” laced t shirt. Blaine Cartwright, lead singer and rhythm guitarist asked us if we all wanted some pussy and they exploded into the first song off their new record called Pussy Time. From that point on it was like being on your favorite roller coaster. There is so much incredible energy that this band brings – they always have for years. I really think they care about their fans and want to make the live show memorable.

Karen wasted no time. She was a fucking animal. The neck of her bass almost hit me in the head as she swung around many times. She had my respect in the middle of the first song. There was a sticker in the middle of the bass that said “Fuck” that ended up being inches from my eyes the whole night She was spitting beer into a dudes mouth right next to me – he returned the favor a few minutes later. Soon after – she was tonguing some other dude next to me (shit – was it something I said ? or wore?) And yes, she was sweating by the third song which is one of my favorites “High as Hell” off their 2nd LP of the same name.

Rutyer Suys, lead guitarist & wife of Blaine, is a cross between Angus Young and that chick who played guitar in the Muppet show band. Not only does she play the same Gibson as Angus but she runs around the stage and gets down on the floor and makes Angus Young’s hissy fits look like mellow. By the end of the gig, she was on the floor ripping every string out of her guitar.

They continued with more new songs of the new album Get Some which is in stores tomorrow. “Hate and Whiskey”, “Come on Come on”, “Hell Ain’t What It Used to Be” were incredible live. Daniel Rey (of Ramones fame) produced this new album and it shows. He was in the house and joined them on stage for a tune.

Jeremy Thompson really holds it together on the kit and a lefty drummer if I might add (so am I). The band played more classics like “Go Motherfucker Go”, “Strutting Cock” and fan favorite “Piece of Ass.” I looked down at one point and saw that my finger was bleeding from pounding on the stage all night. That’s when I knew this ranked up there in my Top 5 shows ever. The evening came to an explosive finish at around 1:10 am.

I was so impressed that I wanted more immediately. This band is on tour for a month. Don’t miss them and get the new record tomorrow. After the gig, I told Karen that I have been seeing this band for years – including gigs with original bassist Corey Parks, and that she fit right in and absolutely belonged in this band. She is sexy as hell and works and rocks her ass off !!!

Daniel Rey, thanks for taking this photo!
