Your Vegas

OK, so I nearly forgot to listen to this one. In my pile of CDs left over from CMJ (yeah, that long ago), a disc in one of those flimsy envelopes got stuck behind my pile of music to review. This EP was from the British group Your Vegas, who have released their debut (and self-titled) single in the UK on White Duke Records. Yes, a self-titled single. It takes some balls to release a single that is the same name as your band, but these young lads pull it off in style. Sounding like the bastard stepchild of Muse and U2, with some deep influences by James, this is the kind of pop single that could launch a band into stardom. This Leeds based group formed a mere six months prior to getting signed, which is pretty impressive. Granted, all five members of the band knew each other since they were in school, so that may have helped accelerate their progress. Frontman Coyle Girelli's vocals have the flexibility of Jimmy Gnecco's (Ours) falsetto and the pop power of Bono. "Your Vegas" is an epic single that will give the latest offerings from Embrace and Coldplay a good run for their money. Their next single, which is coming out in the UK in January, is the rocker "Flybuzz". With its hypnotic piano line and punchy guitars, I am reminded of the glam rock albums from Gay Dad (yeah, remember them?). Great riffs with a catchy as hell chorus make me think of Gay Dad's "Transmission", but much better. Out of curiosity, since I only have a handful of tunes, I went to their MySpace page to see if they have any other songs up for grabs, which they do. You can download a few demos for yourself, including the beautiful "In My Head". Your Vegas has the songs and the talent to go all the way, so hop on the bandwagon early!
