Instrumental gurus Tristeza released their brand new album A Colores last week on Better Looking Records. When co-founding guitarist Jimmy LaValle left the group two years ago to concentrate on The Album Leaf, the future of San Diego’s Tristeza seemed a bit shaky. After picking up Alison Ables on guitar and Sean Ogilvie on keyboards, original members Christopher Sprague, Jimmy Lehner and Luis Hermosillo helped push the group to a whole new level. A Colores was written in Mexico and recorded in Michigan, with a sound that falls somewhere in between Tortoise and Kraftwerk. Not only is this a brilliant album, but the band is mighty good live as well. The group has a handful of dates left, so make sure to catch them if that happen to be stopping by your town.
