If you’re familiar with such groups as The Go! Team, Absentee, and Blue States, chances are you’ve also heard of Memphis Industries, the UK’s underdog indie label founded by Ollie and Matt Jacob. In a matter of two years the brothers have managed to produce an unstoppable line-up of hitmakers. The Jacobs, who initially sold 500 copies of Blue States in 1998, skyrocketed to 30,000 sales for Nothing Changes Under The Sun by 2000.
Now on the brink of eight years since its founding, Memphis Industries is set to release The Memphis Family Album: Music From Memphis Industries, Vol. II, a showcase of the label’s most notable artists. It will be available on February 1st exclusively via iTunes. The project will feature The Squire of Somerton’s newest, “The Band”, Blue States’ “Cherio Manoli”, and Go! Team’s “We Just Won’t Be Defeated”, as well as tracks from Absentee, Dungen, Field Notes, J Xaverre and The Pipettes. If you want to know what's what, you'll go pick this up. Or if you're really a music hound, you'll start doing some research on these acts NOW.
