A round of applause goes out to Arctic Monkeys, who now have the fastest selling debut album in British chart history. The record, which was previously held by the pop group Hear’Say with their 2001 debut, was shattered by an impressive amount. Hear’Say sold 306,000 copies, while Arctic Monkey’s full-length Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not rocketed to 360,000 copies sold in one week. Will Monkey-mania sweep the US as well? We’ll have to wait for the domestic release on February 21 to find out.
In other British music news, we just happened to notice that the Mozfather has been added to the list of confirmed artists for the South By Southwest Music Festival. Yes, Morrissey will be kicking it in Austin, TX. The performance will take place on March 16 at the Austin Music Hall. After the frenzy surrounding his UK tour dates, which sold out in just minutes, perhaps a few more US dates will pop in the near future. His new album, Ringleader Of The Tormentors, will be released in North America on April 4th via Attack/Sanctuary.
