New York by way of Chicago indie outfit the Detachment Kit will be taking their first trip to London next week to play a pair of high-profile gigs. The currently-unsigned band were invited by London tastemaker station XFM to perform at their XFM X-Posure club night on February 2 alongside Be Your Own Pet. The following evening, Detachment Kit will be playing at MTV2 producer David Mogendorff's Adventures Close To Home club night (also in London) with The Fields. Bloc Party will be DJ-ing throughout the night.
Detachment Kit drummer Nick Davis will be absent for the European jaunt due to a broken jaw sustained in a Williamsburg bar room brawl (seriously), so as you might imagine, the band is frantically auditioning replacement drummers for the trip.
The band has also been asked to open for Be Your Own Pet at the Knitting Factory on February 15, so get there early, as I'm sure many of you are already planning to attend.
The Detachment Kit has been writing and demoing songs and playing one-off gigs here and there for the past few months. The band's Bryan Mayer says they're up to about 60 songs now and still going. Not too shabby...
