Break The Night With Colour

We have a harpsichord sighting. Well, not sighting, as it's heard not seen, but the lovely instrument is definitely taking center stage on the new single from Richard Ashcroft. The ex-Verve frontman is back with a third solo record, called Keys To The World, and the first taster has already hit shelves in the UK. Soulful, emotive, and typically Ashcroft, "Break The Night With Colour" is a mid-tempo head-bobber full of lyrical introspection. Not a million miles removed from his past solo work, "Colour" perhaps relies more heavily on keyboards than on releases past. It should please past fans and hopefully win a few more over as his music is exposed to a new generation, one that may forget the guitar-heavy days of Verve and love Richard for his solo career alone. Available only in the UK for the first few weeks, Keys will soon be in stores on this side of the pond, and US fans can hear all the majesty inherent in Ashcroft's new recording.
