The Tourniquet

Even Johansen has heard it all before. He sounds like Coldplay, he sounds like Travis, he sounds like this, he sounds like that. The Magnet lynchpin is not riding others’ musical coattails; the Norwegian songsmith is blazing his own trails on The Tourniquet. Incorporating bubbling electronica, strummed guitars, and his own plaintive vocal tones, Johansen shares more in common with compatriots Kings Of Convenience, as well as the classic songwriting of a Bob Dylan or Brian Wilson. The pop stylings are further enhanced by the production talents of ex-Jellyfish man Jason Falkner. Tracks like “Blow By Blow”, “Hold On”, “Believe”, and the strangely-monikered “Duracellia” all prove that fact out. The Tourniquet has hit stores a touch early to be the perfect spring record, but once your neighborhood starts to thaw for good (it’ll get cold again), remember Evan Johansen and his evocative pop talents; they’ll help to navigate a seamless transition between seasons with emotion, melody, and general dubby electronic goodness.
