Remember Pearl Jam? I seem to recall something about a bout with Ticketmaster and 10 million officially released "bootleg" CDs. I also saw their lead singer... Eddie something... in the bleachers at a Cubs game once, but no one was buying him beers (I saw Billy Corgan there once and people swarmed him, though granted, he IS a giant bald man and much easier to spot). Anyway, soon enough, Pearl Jam will be back in the spotlight and I'll be able to quickly remember (a) that Vedder is the dude's last name and (b) that "Jeremy" was one of my top 10 favorite songs of 1992 (along with U2's "Mysterious Ways" and Wreckx-N-Effect's "Rump Shaker").
Pearl Jam's return to pop culture relevance will come with the release of their new, self-titled album on May 2. If you're lucky enough to be on FMQB's email blast list, the 18 preview emails they sent should have you well acquainted with the lead single, "Worldwide Suicide" (or a least a 30-second snipit of the song that is just long enough to let you know that it "rawks").
PJ will be launching a worldwide tour in support of the album with a two-night stand at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on May 9 and 10. The first leg of the trek will wrap up on June 3 with the second of two shows at the Continental Airlines Arena in Jersey.
Louisville's favorite hometown, long-haired rock & roll band, My Morning Jacket, has been asked to join on as the opening act for the entire first leg of the tour. MMJ's latest effort, Z, was easily one of my favorite albums of '05, and should translate quite well to Pearl Jam crowd. MMJ also have a bunch of festival gigs lined up as well, including Rites Of Spring in Nashville, Coachella in Indio, CA, and Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN.
